I'll keep a log here on hits for various parts of the site, plus whatever else springs to mind.
1st May 2003 Poetry strong and stamps picking up. Mondrian staying steady despite no updates.
1st May 2003 Poetry still around 600. More new stamp pages being developed. 1st April 2003 Poetry peaked but still strong and most of the others are showing a small rise. KCUF (the original page) has reached 1,000 at last. 1st March 2003 Poetry still expanding, Mondrian tailing off - I haven't found anything to add for some time. The new Egypt Stamp page is doing well, but I suspect most of the hits come from myself in work. 1st February 2003 Homage steady and Poetry reaching new heights. The first page to exceed 500 hits in a month. 1st January 2003 All down but still pretty healthy. 1st December 2002: Another month and another free counter goes down the tubes and takes my stats with it. JellyCounter is now charging for a detailed service and the mid-month changeover meant no counts for a few days and then multiple counting for those pages which were being monitored with their multi-page system. The results of 485 for Blackburn and 794 for Homages are implausible so I have halved them. Still, Blackburn traffic is picking up with the activity on New Arrivals, and I have had emails this month from descendents of Mrs PM and Admiral Paul Blackburn and of the founder of Blackburn Aircraft. 1st November 2002: Mixed fortunes. Homage is still leading the Mondrian section, but Poetry Corner has beaten it into second place. Blackburn is dwindling but that is fair enough as I am not putting much effort in there. 1st October 2002: All up again. Homage continues to outstrip the main Mondrian page (342 this month) and so I have begun to chart it. Poetry Corner is the first page to pass 3,000 hits. 1st September 2002: Another Counter Crisis month with BeSeen going under and Jellycounter coming to the rescue. Numbers still trending up when compared to the average. One advantage of jelly is that you can see who has been here. The most interesting so far was someone visiting KCUF, having typed a rude word into elgoog - a mirror copy of Google, showing everything backwards. 6th August 2002: A pretty good month with all pages scoring above average hits and all but Mondrian more hits than last month. Interestingly, the Mondrian Homages page had more hits than the main Mondrian page - I'm not sure how that happened - presumably searches on specific featured items. Last month's Mondrian numbers were artificially inflated by Google and AP and so 200 is creditable. I have added Web Rings to Poetry Corner and Mondrian and while the latter is having some effect, I think the former is dormant. The newly designed front page is getting a lot of business - presumably from visitors arriving at subsidiary subject pages and then exploring. July 2002: The spurt for Mondrian is largely a result of asking Google for permission to show their Mondrian Birthday Special and asking Associated Press for permission to show a picture of George Segal's Sidney Janis Looking at a Painting by Mondrian here (they refused). These requests resulted in 53 hits in two days and 76 hits in two hours respectively on the main Mondrian page. [Google permission now received - see here. Ed.] Poetry Corner is in the doldrums at the moment. I wonder if I can join some poetry rings to drum up some new business.
