I have long fancied a kilt.
There is, disappointingly no Cruickshank Tartan, but there are associations.
According to
tartanshop.com, Cruickshanks can wear Stewart of Garth or Atholl and this is
Stewart Atholl
If I were rich I would
commission a Mondrian tartan.

Wings in the Wilderness /
by Allan D. Cruickshank - photographer and lecturer of the National Audubon
Society / Oxford University Press, NY / 1947 FE / size - 8 1/8 x 10 1/4 /
125 photos. WOW! Gorgeous book in great shape. Each b/w photo is accompanied
with information and/or stories by author. Also included is the photographic
data used for each picture. Pages and photos are beautiful - the pages are
slightly yellowed with a few small stains/dirt and ink transfer, and minimal
edge wear. The first end page was stuck to the cover at one point and has
some extra paper attached. There are pen and pencil marks also on the first
end page. Covers are in good shape, with some staining/dirt, faded on edges,
very slight edge wear and bent corners. The spine is faded on edges, with
very slight edge wear. Hinges are whole and tight. Pages are tight. Dust
jacket is rough - dirty/stained, torn, chipped, creased, chunked, scratched
and scuffed. Not pretty but still holding together.

This Dec 15, 1909 Breeder's
Gazette is a really nice item with a full color painted cover. I cannot even
begin to explain the quality of printing seen here. Let me just say, "they
don't do it like that anymore!" The front cover was pained by Frank Whitney.
The back cover has an ad for Clay Robinson and Co. Ads are unreal. Many
would look nice framed and feature livestock and throughbred horses.
There is a print of the "Herdsman of Aberdeenshire"-Amos Cruickshank.

New, never used, hardbound book. Architecture:
The Critics Choice: 150 Masterpieces of Western Architecture Selected and
Defined by the Experts by Dan Cruickshank. Published by Watson Guptill. Book
size is 9 1/2" x 11 1/2". 352 pages.
Ten prominent architecture experts take a greatest-hits approach to defining
the major movements in Western architectural styles, technologies, and
philosophies. Proceeding chronologically from classical Greek and Roman
temples through the Romanesque and Gothic eras on to the Renaissance, the
baroque, neoclassicism, fin de siecle, and two phases of modernism, editor
Cruickshank's contributors highlight 150 structures, many of which will be
new to readers, while even the most familiar are rendered fresh by lucent
essays that avoid the technical and focus on the human. Sharp and
beautifully lit photographs document churches, libraries, castles, schools,
and museums by architects forgotten and renowned, the latter including
Michelangelo, Henry Aldrich, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Antoni Gaudi, Frank
Lloyd Wright, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Frank Gehry. At once the most
obvious and most easily taken-for-granted manifestation of civilization,
architecture is often chronicled in narratives dense with insider's jargon.
The architectural historians gathered here, including Robin Francis Rhodes,
Robert Harbison, Gavin Stamp, and Diane Ghirardo, bring a more generous
passion to their work and a respect for clear writing.

This is a great book, written by Helen Gere
Cruickshank that also happens to be a first edition. The back of the title
page reads "first printing". The condition is excellent. The dust jacket has
some wear around the edges and a short tear on the upper right corner. It
also has some clipped corners, although the corner with the original price
remains. The book is in excellent condition. The text is very informative
and enjoyable to read. Bird Islands Down East is generously illustrated with
photographs that are beautiful as well as interesting. The book covers many
of Maine's shore birds including laughing gulls, osprey, cormorants,
puffins, etc. If you have a love for or an interest in birds, you will
positively adore this book. There are 123 pages.
I think Helen and Allan may
be an item. They both contributed photographs to a book American
Water & Game Birds (1956) by Austin L. Rand (Chief curator of zoology,
Chicago Natural History Museum). Yes, here's a clincher, they are the
co-authors of 1001 Questions Answered About Birds.
