Notes:
50.1
Scott records this stamp as FWA #1, but in Gibbons this is Senegal #220. SG's FWA #1 is Scott's B1, a 1945 5f + 20f purple Red Cross semi-postal, priced at 2.75 / 3.50.
50.2  Eagle-eyed observers will note that Muscat's first stamp is also its first commemorative. I think that's right - both Scott and Gibbons describe Muscat #1 as  commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Al Husaid Dynasty. I think O1 is pretty similar too. After 1944, Gibbons lists these under British Postal Agencies in Eastern Arabia.
50.3 Gibbons Detailed (Part 8) begins the Italian Social Republic with a series of "G.N.R." overprints used in Brescia and/or Verona, joining Scott's listing with SG47.
50.4 French West Africa was formed in 1943, comprising former colonies Senegal, French Guinea, Ivory Coast, Dahomey, French Sudan, Mauritania, Niger and Upper Volta. In 1958 these former colonies became republics, see Mali (1959), Republic of Senegal  (1960), Guinea (1958), Ivory Coast Republic (1959), Republic of Dahomey (1960), Islamic Republic of Mauritania (1960), Republic of Niger (1959) and Upper Volta Republic (1959).

Notes:
51.1
Gibbons begins in 1945 with the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, a free state within the Indo-China Federation. SC#1, SG#61 is the first stamp listed with Vietnam as an Independent State. Vietnam is an non-trivial exercise:

Year Gibbons Entity SG # Sc # Scott Entity
1945 A Democratic Republic SG 1-60 n/a
1951 B Independent State SG 61-97 Sc1  Vietnam
C South Vietnam - Independent State
1955    -Independent State SG S1-S10 Sc27  South Vietnam
1956    - Republic SG S11-S495 Sc36
1963 D National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam SG NLF1-NLF79
E North Vietnam (see also 51.5 below)   Sc1L1  North Vietnam
1946    - I    Tongking SG N1-N13 SC1L14
1950    - II   Central Annam SG NA1-NA8c
SG N5 Sc1  Republic of North Vietnam
1954    - III General Issues SG N14-N871 Sc6
1976 F Socialist Republic of Vietnam SG 99 onwards Sc830 Socialist Republic of Vietnam

51.2 For Fezzan (-Ghadames) Gibbons starts in 1943 with a number of occupation overprints. Scott favours 1946 with their first real stamps. Scott, under Libya Occupation stamps separates Fezzan-Ghadames (Sc1N1 etc.); Fezzan (Sc2N1); and Ghadames (3N1): Gibbons, under Fezzan, has (a) Issues for Fezzan-Ghadames; and (b) Issues for Fezzan only, then Ghadames listed separately.
51.3 Gibbons lists BMA Malaya, Straits Settlements overprints,  as a separate entity. Scott lists them within Straits Settlements.
51.4 Scott categorises Russia's Occupation of Germany under: Berlin-Brandenburg (Sc11N1); Mecklenburg Vorpommern (Sc12N1); Saxony Province (Sc13N1); West Saxony (Sc14N1);  East Saxony (Sc15N2); and Thurngia (Sc16N1). I will need the Gibbons detailed Part 7 to complete this section. Now available (April 2004), there is a surprising and pleasing conformity between Scott and Gibbons with the latter having an additional General Issue. I will list the various areas above.
51.5 For North Vietnam, Gibbons Simplified begins in 1946 with an Indo-China overprint for Tonking (SGN1), followed by real stamps up to 1954 (SGN2--N13); then issues for Central Annam 1950-52 (SGNA1-NA8c); then General Issues from 1954 numbered SGN14 onwards. Scott starts in similar vein but with many more overprints - SGN1 is Sc1L14, and begins the Republic of North Vietnam in 1951 with Sc1 (SGN5).
51.6 North Vietnam Post Dues, Gibbons lists for 1952 issues (SG-ND33-36) described as "handstamped TT in a diamond frame": Scott mentions these but they are not listed as it is doubtful whether they were ever used.
51.7 This atrocious stamp is included as one of my Worst Stamps series. There are several North Vietnamese candidates from the conflict, notably those celebrating every 500th US aircraft claimed to have been brought down. I have a number of these including the 500th (Sc374, SG-N390) and 1,500th (Sc431, SG-N447). But the award for outstanding bad taste, including the use of a pre-adolescent doodle for the image goes to this 1967 example.
51.8 Gibbons lists five categories under Venezia Giulia and Istria. I have only found one equivalent so far in Scott:

  Year SG first Scott
A Yugoslav Occupation Provisional Issues
     Issues for Trieste - Italian Socialist Republic stamp o/p 1.V. 1945 TRIESTE TRST 1945 SG4 ?
Issues for Istria - Italian Surch ISTRA 1945 SG14 ?
Issues for Fiume - Italian Socialist Republic stamp o/p 3-V-1945 FIUME RIJEA 1945 SG18 ?
B Allied Military Government - Italian o/p A.M.G V.G. 1945 SG26 1NL1
C Yugoslav Military Government 1945 SG74 ?

51.9 Java and Madura's first commemorative is its first real stamp.
51.10  Sumatra's first Charity is its first real stamp.
51.11 East Saxony's first was withdrawn on the first day of issue, to be replaced by a range of definitive values of which the 12pf was the first issued.
51.12 Thuringia #1 was issued on 1st January 1946, the #4 on 1st October 1945.
51.13 Courland, German Occupied part of Latvia, NW of Riga, German stamps overprinted KURLAND. Mentioned but not numbered in Scott, Image kindly provided by
 David Olson.
