I think the basic notion here is that Scott (i.e. USA) perceives the continuation of old China in Taiwan / Formosa, while Gibbons (UK) continues it on mainland China and starts again from #1 with Taiwan. It took me a long time to get my head around that.

54.1a The Communist China listings are extremely complicated. Gibbons Simplified notes that "Issues were made by various Communist administrations from 1930 onwards" and refers to the Gibbons Part 17 as they "are outside the scope of this [the Simplified] catalogue". I am not interested enough to pursue the details of all these Chinese locals and so will pick up the story, as does the Simplified, when "in 1946 (North East China) and 1949 these local issued were consolidated into Regional People's Posts", categorised as in the table above. I will base these listings on Gibbons, cross-referencing to Scott where possible and listing the Scott #1 where it differs. This will provide a sufficiently representative sample.

54.2 Netherlands Antilles earlier stamps were inscribed Curaçao. From 1949 onwards the inscription is Netherlands Antilles. Scott and Gibbons both number them sequentially.
54.3 Rajasthan was formed in 1947-49 by Indian states including  Bundi, Jaipur and Kishengarh.
54.4 Spanish West Africa's first commemorative is its #1; the second is also the first airmail. There wasn't a third.
