French Equatorial
Africa
In 1910, Gabon,
Middle Congo and Ubangi-Shari-Chad were federated to form French
Equatorial Africa: each colony continued to issue its own stamps until 1936.
In 1958 the four constituent colonies became autonomous republics as
Gabon, Congo Republic, Central African Republic (formerly Ubangi-Shari) and
Chad. (SG)

Notes:
1. Although this is Scott #1, the first French stamp issued was
#3
2. Scott record this stamp as FWA #1, but in Gibbons this is
Senegal #220. SG's FWA #1 is Scott's B1, a 1945 5f + 20f purple Red Cross
semi-postal, priced at £2.75 / £3.50. I'll need one of those anyway for the
Guinness pages so I will show both here
eventually.
